What It's All About

Running, laughing, skipping, having sex without pain...these are all things you did before having a baby that should continue normally after having a baby.

And while it's true that giving birth will change and challenge you on many levels, those changes don't have to be negative.

Pelvic health symptoms - like leaking, pressure, heaviness, and pain - don't have to be your new reality just because you had a baby.

Pelvic Floor Birth Prep is designed to prevent and minimize pelvic health issues that often start during pregnancy and birth.  This program will walk you through the steps you need to take to preserve your pelvic floor health during pregnancy, for birth, and for your future.

You will learn not only about your pelvic floor, but also your brain, uterus, pelvis, and more - and understand how they all interact during labour.  This program combines childbirth education with birth skills training, pelvic floor training, brain training, whole-body exercises, somatic movement, manual methods, and practical pelvic health tips for birth and beyond.

This is going to be so good!

Love From Past Participants

~M.H

It was good to discuss each part in detail and I have lots of material to review as I go through this and its a great jumping off point for discussions with my partner.

~S.W

Truly a fantastic experience and has left me feeling more prepared for what is to come in future months! I feel armed with more information and ready to discuss with my OB some of my wishes for labor/delivery. Empowered. That’s the better word for how I feel.

~R.C.

Thanks for sharing your personal experiences with us.  It made you easy to relate to and genuine.  It also made the upcoming joys and challenges feel real, but manageable.

Frequently Asked Questions

When in my pregnancy should I start Pelvic Floor Birth Prep?

This program is self directed and you can work at your own pace.  Once program registration opens you'll have access to all the modules and sections.  You can power through it all in a couple of days, or you can pace yourself over several months (which is highly recommended).

To get the most out of your program, please don't leave it to the last minute.  Late first trimester or early second trimester is a great time to start the regular practices that you will learn in this program which you will carry into birth with you.

Will this program help me if this is not my first pregnancy?

For sure.  Many first time mamas have followed this program, and so have many second and third timers

Both groups have different motivations:

  • First time moms may have heard negative birth stories and they're hoping to avoid a similar experience. Or they've had friends who highly recommend pelvic floor training before birth.  Usually, their goal is to be preventative.

  • Second+ time moms usually sign up because their first birth experience didn't go how they wanted it to go and they had surprising pelvic health issues afterwards!  These mamas are majorly motivated to do things differently for their second births.

So whether this is your first baby or whether this is a second, or third; whether you are having a vaginal birth or are planning a VBAC; whether you want to go unmedicated or opt for an epidural, Pelvic Floor Birth Prep will show you all the things you need to know to improve pelvic health outcomes and help create positive birth experiences (plus set you up for an awesome postpartum recovery).

Who is teaching this program?

Ibukun Afolabi is a passionate pelvic floor and perinatal physiotherapist who has 15 years of experience.  Her practice focuses on childbirth, pelvic health, and pre/postnatal health.

Ibukun is also a certified childbirth educator, a certified doula, and instructor to health and birth professionals; but her most important title is "mom" to five awesome kiddos ages 8 years old down to 10 months old.   No pelvic floors were harmed in the birthing of her babies.

Can my partner join me in this program?

Absolutely. Although it's not required, it is highly recommended.  If your partner plans to be with you during labour and delivery, much of what you learn in this program will be super helpful to you both.

Your partner will be able to practice important strategies with you during the lead up to birth, and will also feel better equipped to provide support and advocacy during the birth process itself.

What equipment do I need to get started?

You don't need tons. An exercise mat and a large exercise ball (or birth ball), will be helpful but are not necessary.  Recommendations for other tools or equipment will be made as you go along.

Do I need approval from my doctor, OB, or midwife before starting this course?

While this program has been designed for women who have normal, healthy, low risk pregnancies, it is important to note that it - along with other digital products and guides on this site - is meant for educational and informational purposes only.  It does not replace working 1:1 with a licensed healthcare professional and thus cannot diagnose any conditions, offer specific treatments, nor can it guarantee any particular results.

If you need medical advice, please seek it from a qualified medical professional as the information in this program does not constitute medical advice.

I still have more questions...

More than happy to answer.  Please email info@themamasphysio.com and we'll go from there.
