A Masterclass for Health & Birth Professionals
During birth, several things need to open, ideally with ease: the mind, the heart, and the body. You can think of these spaces as types of doorways that must open for a new life to be born in love.
Most providers (and thus parents) fixate on the cervix "door" that must open/dilate. Yet the pelvis and pelvic floor also need to open - with fluency and gentleness - as a baby moves down and out.
This masterclass is designed to help health and birth professionals understand what happens at the deep pelvic floor and at the superficial pelvic floor "doors" during the emergence phase of birth.
You'll learn the art and science of pushing, while understanding the factors that make for a healthy and resilient pelvic floor/perineum before, during, and after birth.
Join The Mama's Physio live-virtually for one of her most popular masterclasses! You'll learn the ins and outs of pushing and what to share with your clients that'll promote pelvic health in birth and beyond.
This evidence-informed masterclass is interactive, meaning you won't just sit and watch! You'll be invited to try specific practices/skills and encouraged to ask any questions on your mind.
Unmedicated pushing and medicated pushing (eg. with an epidural) can be a very different process and experience. We will be considering pushing in both contexts with a view to elevate physiology and pelvic health regardless of how the birth unfolds.
Who this is for:
this masterclass is designed primarily for health and birth professionals who work with for pregnant women in some capacity prior to or during birth
doulas, midwives, labour and delivery nurses, OBs, GPs, osteopaths, chiropractors, childbirth educators or other perinatal professionals who are curious about a pelvic rehabilitation and prehabiliation approach to stage 2 of childbirth
if you're pregnant or a birth partner, you are very welcome to attend with the understanding that we will be getting geeky and diving into the research evidence
Date: Thursday, November 14, 2024.
Time: 7:00pm EST - (Toronto Time Zone). Anticipate 2 to 2.5h together
Location: Live virtual - you will get a link to connect in your inbox.
Frameworks: The Mama's Physio prioritizes holistic care of the whole-person. Therefore this class will be built on the following frameworks: trauma-informed, evidence-informed, integrative pelvic health approach, biopsychosocial framework, and a saultogenic approach to health and birth.
Intentions for the Masterclass:
Understand principles of pushing; review anatomy and physiology; learn what happens in/at both levels of the pelvic floor during pushing; appreciate the impact of the pushing phase of birth on both short and long term pelvic health; consider which pushing practices and strategies are harmful and which are helpful.
Learn the ABCs of effective and efficient pushing that is considerate of and kind to the pelvic floor. A is for Awareness; B is for Biomechanics; and C is for Context. Review practical ways integrate this knowledge both prenatally and as birth itself unfolds.
Practice getting into your body. Theory is important, but embodied experiencing is key to most aspects of birth including pushing! Knowing what you're feeling within your body, interpreting sensations, attuning to your body's messages, getting more comfortable being and feeling in your body...these are all extremely useful during childbirth. As a health or birth professional, you'll be invited to sense into your body, and then learn how to share these concepts with your pregnant clients.
Investment: $97 USDs. Includes downloadable worksheets for note taking as well as time limited access to the recording. Option to purchase slides and additional resources that can be shared with clients.
